Description: The Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Rail Administration (FRA) Railroad Tunnels contains detailed attributes on railroad tunnels located throughout the United States. The tunnel locations and names, along with the current owner, have been updated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory Geographic Information Sciences and Technology Group (ORNL-GIST) as of 2015. Existing tunnels that were not in the original dataset have been added, while tunnels that have been daylighted have been removed from the dataset. Abandoned tunnels in the database do not have an ALPHACDE attribute and have the term 'abandoned" in the COMMENT field. The owning railroad is identified by railroad reporting mark. This can be cross-referenced to the complete railroad owner name in the Railroads table. This product is a completed deliverable. No rail tunnels exist in American Samoa, Delaware, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and the Virgin Islands of the US. The only attribute fields being updated are ALPHACDE, CITY, STATE, AARCODE, FACNAME, COUNTY_NAME, and COUNTRY.
